The Treasure Chest

When you were a child did you ever hope to find a treasure chest, dig it up and find handfuls of beautiful glittering jewels of priceless worth? I did and I knew if I did I would give them to my mom and we would be rich and she would never have to work and we would live happily ever after. That did not happen, but I remember a nun in school telling us we could build a treasure chest in heaven that would fill up with the precious jewels of love we gave to others here on earth. I never forgot that and it is no wonder when I became a new Christian I picked my lifelong verse: Matthew 6:21..for where your treasure is there will your heart be also.”
When I was younger I supposed those jewels had to consist of good deeds..now I realize, that although good deeds are wonderful, they won’t fill up my treasure chest in heaven…only my love for Jesus and my obedience to what He calls me to do. Our children are jewels and how much they love Jesus or not? They have free will but folks most good examples are caught not taught.
Yet when I fail, as a wife or mother or friend, I know I have a resource to go to. When I get really angry at a perceived injustice I get all steamed up and immediately want to justify myself, but why? I heard an author talking about hearing from God and one step he said is to just sit quietly. Start with ten or fifteen minutes a few times a week and build up. I was really surprised when I finally shut out the world, how much God ministered to me. How often I hear Him whisper my name and then say gently…forgive as I have forgiven you…then He will often show me how I have offended others, often times when I did not even intend to. Those are jewels He will remember. God says there is laid up for us a crown of righteousness and I believe any crowns I may receive may have to do with forgiveness I have given and for asking others to forgive me. Have a blessed month and grab a glass of ice cold tea and sit down and listen. This morning the Lord gave me one word…peace…then I looked om Facebook and saw the Bible quote my Ned posted and it was on peace. Then a friend called who needed God’s peace more than anything in the world. It all works together. Never give up and build up your treasures in heaven by the way you live with and for Jesus on earth. “For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.” love, Kathy
